Designing smartphones to help people live independently for longer

Mark Duman, PhD, of Intelesant, talks about leveraging the Internet of Things to improve healthcare. The HOWZ app uses sensors placed around the home to monitor elderly people’s activity and alert their family if it identifies anything that may vary from their normal pattern. Dr. Duman explains how this technology allows for elderly people to remain autonomous in their own home, and gives their family reassurance that they are well. Intelesant hope to extend this technology to other vulnerable groups in hospitals and community centres, with the ultimate goal of creating a HOWZing community, where members can begin to look after each other.
